The 25-year-old then looked inside the jar and was horrified to find the black spots nestled in the food.

She said the mystery substance wasn’t like a “normal furry mould” but was instead “really weird and hard”.

The mum-of-two is now fearing for Nova’s health after the baby was sick and has been left “whingy” the last few days.

Lauren, from Gateshead, said: “She had two mouthfuls and then I realised what was there – I couldn’t believe it.

“I thought ‘why don’t you like that’ but then I looked into the jar and I was like ‘oh my god’.”

‘ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED’

Worried Lauren took Nova to the GP and was told to bring her back if she vomits again or stops feeding – leading to an anxious wait for Lauren.

She says the jar had been stored properly and had only just been opened by her partner moments before Nova’s feeding time.

Lauren added: “I feel absolutely disgusted when I think about, and I’m also annoyed because I’m her mum and I’ve fed her something without realising what was inside.

“And I’ve been worried sick ever since, especially when she started being sick.”

Lauren has now lodged a formal complaint to Danone, who operate Cow and Gate, who believe it was an “isolated incident”.

The food giant has launched an investigation and sent special packaging to Lauren so she can return the jar for inspection.

A spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to hear about Ms Gair’s experience.

“We always want our babyfoods to reach parents in the best possible condition and we’ve asked Ms Gair to return the jar to us, in special packaging we have provided, so that we can fully investigate.

“We’re committed to finding out what has happened, and we’ll keep in touch with Ms Gair as we investigate.”
